Local Philanthropy
The Gamma Epsilon Chapter commits each member to over 10 hours of community service per semester. We do not confine those hours to one organization or cause as we believe many efforts in the community are important and deserve attention. However, there are organizations that we regularly dedicate time to like the Athens Latino Center for Education and Services (ALCES), MLK Day of Service, Movimiento Latino, among others. We also commit time to different events throughout the state of Georgia in collaboration with other Georgia Chapters.
National Philanthropy
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute
On Wednesday, July 30, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) signed an agreement that includes both a philanthropic and service commitment to support CHCI’s high school college readiness programs in Washington, D.C. and throughout the United States. Lambda Theta Phi’s national fundraising campaign will aid CHCI’s Ready 2 Lead Next Gen program, a week-long civic engagement experience for 9th, 10th and 11th grade Latino students to learn about the federal government and explore Washington, DC. Lambda Theta Phi will also support CHCI’s Ready 2 Lead college readiness events, held throughout the United States, with undergraduate and alumni volunteers.

PhilanthropyThe most significant part of the partnership with CHCI is a commitment to raise funds for the R2L NextGen program. The goal for 2016 is to raise $22,000 to support seven students who will attend the one-week experience in Washington, D.C. The Fraternity will fundraise each year to support R2L NextGen much like our past philanthopic efforts to benefit the American Heart Association. We encourage chapters to collect change in support of the fundraising effort (replacing our former Nickel Drive with the Quarter for the Quarter Drive), while also encouraging competition among chapters and sectors using the Crowdrise format that enjoyed significant success last year when total fundraising surpassed $21,000.

ServiceOur partnership with CHCI also provides a number of opportunities for service at one of the many Ready 2 Lead (R2L) programs hosted throughout the nation each year. CHCI will look to Lambda to supply undergraduate brothers to help with registration and execution of the event, and alumni to serve as mentors for the Mentoring Power Hour component of the program. A complete schedule of R2L event dates can be found here.
